LinkedIn calls permanent account deletion “closing” your account. Closing removes access to the profile and starts deletion of the account data.
Before you delete
- Download a copy of your LinkedIn data if you need your connections or account history.
- Resolve Premium, group ownership, enterprise licences, or duplicate accounts that could block closure.
- If you signed in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft, unlink LinkedIn from that provider as a separate cleanup step.
Delete your LinkedIn account
- Open LinkedIn and go to Settings & Privacy.
- Under Account preferences, find Account management.
- Choose Close account and continue.
- Select a reason, enter your password, and confirm closure.
What happens next
Your profile stops being visible on LinkedIn, but search engines may show cached results temporarily. LinkedIn says closed account information is generally deleted within 30 days, subject to its retention rules.
LinkedIn can reopen most accounts closed for less than 14 days, but endorsements, recommendations, invitations, follows, and group memberships may not be recoverable.
