Deleting the Facebook app does not delete your account. To remove your profile and the content attached to it, use Meta's account deletion controls.
Before you delete
- Export anything you want to keep. After deletion, Facebook's export tool is no longer available.
- Check apps and sites where you use Facebook Login. You may need to add another sign-in method first.
- If you use Facebook with Meta Quest, review the effect on purchases, achievements, and store credit.
Delete your Facebook account
- Open Facebook, then go to Settings and privacy and choose Settings.
- Open Accounts Centre, then Personal details.
- Choose Account ownership and control, then Deactivation or deletion.
- Select the account or profile, choose Delete account, and continue through the confirmation steps.
What happens next
Meta says you can usually cancel by logging back in within 30 days, although the period can vary by region. Deleting all posted content can take up to 90 days, and limited copies may remain in backups or where retention is required for safety or legal reasons.
Messages you sent may remain in other people's inboxes. If you only want a break, choose deactivation instead of deletion.

Menus and timelines can change. Confirm the current process in the Facebook Help Centre. If you want a copy first, use Export your Facebook information.

Download Breakup for iPhone to find forgotten services connected to Gmail. Breakup scans metadata on your iPhone; you review every service and approve every deletion or closure request before it is sent.
